Happy halloween!

The 32-bit Cafe had a fun idea for doing a halloween-themed custom stylesheet and I decided to take part.

I may have missed the point. Having just written that, I realize that I interpreted it as "give your site a costume," and now I think it meant "give your site a halloween appearance." Ah well, I've had fun and I'm not turning back now.

Twin Peaks was and remains my faorite show. It came out when I was in high school, but I didn't watch it until a few years later. I still rewatch it every few years. I watched The Return when it came out and while it's something different - essentially an 18-hour David Lynch film rather than a Lynch-influenced evening soap opera - I also loved that.

Ostensibly, the show is about the murder of Laura Palmer, but of course it's about the characters and the town of Twin Peaks. Some of those characters are still among my favorites: Agent Cooper of course, but also the irascible Albert Rosenfield, the inimitable Audrey Horne, hapless Deputy Andy and flighty Lucy ... I could keep going. They inhabit a world of mystery and ghosts both supernatural and mundane. It also has an amazing soundtrack, some of which I've used here to set the mood.

David Lynch's passing in January left a hole in my being as it did so many others. This halloween, a Twin Peaks costume feels right. The theme isn't strictly a halloween theme, nor is the show a horror show. But when you enter Twin Peaks you quickly learn that there's plenty to dread. Nothing is quite what it seems - especially the owls. And what's more halloween than a malevolent owl?
